Vinyl Skylight Windows

This page will give you a look at the wide selection of vinyl skylight windows that are available for home installation.

Many modern day homes already have vinyl skylights installed. Many skylights are installed in small rooms that do not have a lot of natural light because of the need for privacy, such as bathroom or bedroom. Skylights also work well in larger rooms where you want to create a sense of wonder by having bright sunlight cascade down from the ceiling.

In order to have windows that both keep warm air in and cold air out, it is important to seam your skylight windows with vinyl. Of course those who live in very hot climates may not like the extra warmth created by the sun beating though the skylight window all day long. To prevent the air conditioning bill from going through the roof it is best to install either tinted skylights or ones with automatic shades when you live in an area with very hot weather. It is best to install skylight vinyl windows in those parts of the country that have colder temperatures and damper weather, where protection from the elements is essential.

Skylights vinyl window look best the larger they are. These windows are typically between one and four square feet. Unless you plan to accentuate your very small, cubbyhole sized, skylight vinyl window with a decorative sculpture or plant, it is best not to install them.

Some applications, however, need the extra light provided by a skylight vinyl window, but do not have a lot of space. If this is the case it is best to install a funnel shaped skylight that is wider at the bottom. By installing a funnel shaped skylight you will allow more light to enter the room and reflect around a greater part of the area. Those who live in hot climates need to remember that adding light to your room will also add heat. Be sure to properly vent the skylight to allow extra heat to escape.

Skylight vinyl window come in three main types:

Vented Skylight
There are fairly new on the market, as skylight windows did not come with the ability to open and close prior to the late 1980s. You can purchase vented skylights that open and close either manually or electronically. They will not leak in wet weather because of the vinyl stripping that is installed around the frame of the window.

Sun Tunnels
These allow extra light into a dark space in your home through a hole that is approximately a foot wide. They work well to use natural light to brighten up all sorts of small spaces such as bathrooms, closets, basements, and attics.

Skylight Window Shades
These skylights have lids to allow you to block the light when needed. This works great in bedrooms for taking a nap, or in dens or living rooms if you want to watch a movie. You can adjust the amount of light that enters your room by using the remote that comes with the unit.

You no longer need to frame the opening of the skylight with wood because skylight vinyl windows give you such a secure and waterproof seal. The double paned windows are prevented from sweating through the use of vinyl. While they are not necessary, some people may prefer to install wood wrappers around the windowpanes in order to achieve a more elegant finished appearance. These can be easily fitted around skylight vinyl window to achieve just the look you want.
