Reasons for Replacement

Leaky windows are the obvious reasons for replacing old wooden windows, with energy efficient ones.

There are several reasons for considering replacing the windows in your home. Though I grew up in Costal North Carolina, my father's family lived in Pennsylvania. I loved my grandparents old stone farmhouse, but during the winter, I hated the frigid cold that blew in from around the windows. My grand mother didn't want to replace the old windows in her home, because she felt it would take away from it's charm. Thank goodness, my father and uncles found double-paned energy efficient windows that matched the original windows of the house. Now, when we return to the old farm, we can take off our coats.

Leaky windows are the obvious reasons for replacing old wooden windows, with energy efficient ones. The old wooden window frames definitely have charm and appeal, but they are not practical. You don't have to worry about loosing your home's charm, by replacing your windows, newer windows are available in all styles ranging from ultra modern to traditional. By not replacing your leaky windows, you can actually cause more damage because the leaks can cause rot to the structure or the finish of your home.

Stopping the leaks and energy efficiency almost goes hand in hand. Older homes generally are not very energy efficient because of leaking windows and doors, or because insufficient insulations. Simply by replacing your windows and doors can reduce your energy bills, saving you money. With my grandparents home, the money they saved paid for their windows---twice over. The savings you see may not be this tremendous, but I can guarantee that the savings will be significant.

The final reason, for replacing your windows is to improve the appearance of your home. Larger new windows can bring more light into dark rooms, creating new views, and provide a more refined look to the exterior of your home. There are so many options in various price ranges you can find windows to fit your budget and create the home you've always wanted.
