Choosing Your Window Installer
A general contractor will have
the knowledge necessary to make the adjustments
for the size differences.
Before you begin
a home improvement project such as installing
windows, ask yourself if you will need to hire
someone to help you with window installation,
and be honest with yourself. There are situation
where you can work with the window company, and
there are instances that will require the
experience of a specialized professional window
installer.
If the window you're replacing is the same size
as the old window, then go to the window
company. Before purchasing the window, call
around for the best sources and prices for your
project and feel free to ask the window company
any question that you may have about your
project.
If, however, you are replacing an existing
window with one that is of a different
size, then perhaps you should hire a general
contractor to assist you. A general contractor
will have the knowledge necessary to make the
adjustments for the size differences. There may
be other work required in order to make the
window fit, for instance adjusting the exterior
siding or stucco, or working with the sheetrock
that surrounds the existing window. A simple
window company may not be able to assist you in
these areas.
Remember by cutting corners you could in up
paying more in the long run. Windows, which have
not been properly installed, will cause heat
loss in your home, as well as other problems
such as leaking water.
