Choosing Your Window Installer

Before you begin a home improvement project such as installing windows, ask yourself if you will need to hire someone to help you with window installation, and be honest with yourself. There are situation where you can work with the window company, and there are instances that will require the experience of a specialized professional window installer.

If the window you're replacing is the same size as the old window, then go to the window company. Before purchasing the window, call around for the best sources and prices for your project and feel free to ask the window company any question that you may have about your project.

If, however, you are replacing an existing window with one that is of a different
size, then perhaps you should hire a general contractor to assist you. A general contractor will have the knowledge necessary to make the adjustments for the size differences. There may be other work required in order to make the window fit, for instance adjusting the exterior siding or stucco, or working with the sheetrock that surrounds the existing window. A simple window company may not be able to assist you in these areas.

Remember by cutting corners you could in up paying more in the long run. Windows, which have not been properly installed, will cause heat loss in your home, as well as other problems such as leaking water.
